Fokofpolisiekar – En Nou’s dit 10 Jaar Later Tour

A decade ago in March 2003 the legendary 5-piece Rock outfit, originally from Bellville, penned down cult classics like Hemel op die Platteland  and Fokofpolisiekar.  Fokofpolisiekar changed the face of the local music scene with their first musical offering, As jy met Vuur speel sal jy Brand, released by the end of 2003, and their massive impact still burns strongly ten years later.

Fokofpolisiekar ended 2012 with a riveting sold-out tour and the release of a double album.  The band is back by popular demand and ready to treat their old and new fans to the En Nou’s dit 10 Jaar Later (And Now It’s 10 Years Later) Tour.  The name of the tour is a play on the lyrics of their hit Fokofpolisiekar.

In April 2013 Fokofpolisiekar will also return to London to play two shows at the Clapham Grand in Clapham Junction.

There is talk to start production in the long awaited third full length album in March 2013. No deadline or release date has been set.

Stellenbosch – When I was 14 years old, I saw Fokof for the first time at Kaktus op die Vlaktes back at the KKNK. Wynand was handing out the red lyric bundles and we had a bit of a chat at the front. And as he walked away, I thought I had just met Jesus. En nou is dit 10 jaar later, en ek is 23. En het honderde van hul shows regoor die land gaan kyk. Van Worcester tot Langebaan. And wat kan erger wees as om nie een van die shows te gaan kyk en my kop te gaan verloor nie? So ASSEBLIEF! I need these tickets!

Stellenbosch – I’ve been in love with Fokofpolisiekar since 2003. As the only Afrikaans speaking person at my all girls english high school I somehow managed to convince my friends that fokof are the only way forward.
10 years later I couldn’t even guess how many shows I’ve been at. While at most other gigs I’m happy to step back and let the kids jam up front, I will always be the first person at the front of the stage, waiting patiently for the lights to dim so my favourite band in the world can blow my mind away!

Stellenbosch – I still remember sitting with Hunter at the little SPF skate shop in Tygervalley where he used to work, talking shit, him sitting with the English – Afrikaans dictionary, writing the lyrics for their first album, my mind just blown by the thought of an Afrikaans punk band. That first album still gives me chills every time I listen to it.

JHB – Het vir my n heel ander siening oor lewe gegee! Die steriotipiese afrikaaner het weg geval. En n nuwe generasie van befokte mense is ontdek. Thanks vir die revolusie!

Cape Town – I saw Fokofpolisiekar for the first time at Aardklop back in 2008 after moving to SA from Germany. My current boyfriend was working there as a sound manager, and I went there because I was head over heels. Not knowing what I would find at this music fest, I didn’t have very high expectations as I couldn’t speak much afrikaans. I remember telling my boyfriend after seeing them live, I didn’t really understand the lyrics, but I felt the music. After that I continued to lister to Fokofpolisiekar and I havnt stopped since. Numerous cds have been sent to my family in Germany, because we are all music lovers, and I thought that such an amazing band shouldn’t be kept hidden. I try to go to as many shows as I possibly can, but I’ve never seen them live at Assembly. They have helped me through a lot, and I really would love to go support them for everything they’ve done

Cape Town – When fokof first arrived on the scene (10 years ago) I was 15 and abviously too young to be allowed into most of the gigs that they played but that did NOT stop me..I made friends with the bouncers and managers of places I shall not name, and vowed to not have alcohol on their premises so they would allow me to mosh around while francios, normally slurring, or having a chunder, or falling off the stage, but generally just entertaining us with an awesome show, was rocking out! They are def the legends of the SA music scene and revealed what our generation stands for..I will always be the biggest fan of the true kings of rock!!
