Park Acoustics July Review & Competition

Park Acoustics was hip and happening again, on the 2nd of July and I’m going to make you feel like you were, make you WISH that you were there and then making sure you are there for the next one.

Even though it was winter, more summer vibes could not have been present. The sun was shining high and hot, and the coolerbags, shorts and tee’s all around made it feel like a little private summer day- only those at Park Acoustics experienced and knew about.

The line-up makes you start dancing, jumping and feeling all the feels only by looking at it. And then in real life (feel free to read in a very dramatic way) in front of the stage; dancing along to the true tunes; and wanting to light the lighters; only enhances.

Harrebaard was “lekker” old-school (Literally. But DAMN! just as good as the term “old school” usually means). Adelle Nqeto: gave you all the feels. Bye Beneco was soulgood. Hot water was everything and anything you wanted them to be. And then DRUM ROLL -drrrrrrrrrrrr- DESMOND AND THE TUTUS. I don’t have to say much with this name. You know how it was. You bet the Zacchaeus was alive and dancing.

There’s nothing like a short little “fake” holiday (for parkie go-ers) to kick start your attitude. And that is exactly what a Sunday under the Sycamore tree at Fort Schanskop feels like.

If you couldn’t make Park Acoustics the 2nd of July, don’t worry I’m here to give you fomo.

Some of the things you’ve missed:

  • Kids joining bands on stage as they start living out their dreams of being entertainers and musos.
  • A free for all stage: open for all and any kind of jammers. (There was a moment where I thought the stage might break with the amount of people having the greatest of times).
  • Being part of making a new song with Hot Water for a wedding anniversary.
  • Getting people out of the tree with the crowd cheering: “Get out the tree!”.
  • Making spooky ghost noises with Desmond and the Tutus.

If the fomo is real, or you’re just keen to up your level of coolness and add to your life’s meaning, here is what you can expect from any Park Acoustics. Just some extra bit of encouragement, if you’re still not sure if you’re going to buy your ticket to join the #parkieclub.

  • It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the bands, odds are you are going to like them anyway.
  • It’s all about the vibe, the togetherness and everybody moving and shaking in someway or another.
  • With that said, be prepared to move some- or all- parts of your body the whole time.
  • You don’t come just for the line-up.
  • You forget the next day is Monday.

Park acoustics is like a landmark, a monument to Pretoria. Which is quite funny, because it is held at a landmark of Pretoria. If you have people visiting you and you want to show them Pretoria in an afternoon; Park Acoustics should be on your list, because you see and feel Pretoria. Pretoria becomes more than just a town on a map. It becomes a lingering feeling, epic memories and a little utopia.

The only sad thing about Park Acoustics is that it ends. But then, you can expect its return next month.

Making you gloomy for not too long.

I am excited to see Die Heuwels Fantasties because they were the original act for Park Acoustics, and The Vanilla gave my brother a shout-out on his birthday so they’re pretty cool in my books, but the band I am most excited to see is Early Hours. I first discovered them at Park Acoustics last year and they were so infectiously fun that I’ve made an effort to always see them when they play in Pretoria. I met Jake (the lead singer) after their gig at Railways and I told him the next time they’re at Park Acoustics I would be right in front singing along to every song, and I would love it if you guys could help me keep this promise. Either way Early Hours are going to put on one hell of a show and Heuwels Fantasties is going to be amazing!
