South African Music Scene Searching For New Writers

Are you good with words? Do you have a keen love for music? Have you ever wanted an excuse to ask your favourite musicians about their music, and not seem like an obsessive fan? Do you want to receive music before it is released, and even receive physical copies of album? Do you want to be able to attend shows for free, and simply pay your way into a concert with cleverly crafted words?

If you have answered yes to the above words, then we are offering you the opportunity to do all of the above. South African Music Scene are opening up their doors to all aspiring writers that wish to contribute their ideas and opinions regarding South African music, and about the international music scene as a whole.

The requirements are quite simple. You must merely be fairly proficient with writing, able to work independently, have good interpersonal skills, able to take constructive criticism, be reliable, and most of all – a love for music of any particular genre is essential. You do not need any past experience to qualify for a position. Every great writer stood somewhere, and South African Music Scene aims to be one of those places.

The application process is as simple as the requirements. Three are three components to it:

  1. All your basic information such as name, age, location, and any other pertinent background information.
  2. Musical interests, such as favourite bands and the songs or genres you’re currently enjoying right now.
  3. Three or more writing samples (PDF and Word Documents are acceptable. These samples can be about anything – as long as they show your unique voice as an author.)

Send all the above information to our editor-in-chief Vicky Jankiewicz (vicky@samusicscene.co.za), and she will get back to you shortly. Please include “SAMS Writer Application” in the subject. One of the most important traits a writer can show is confidence, so don’t let nerves or insecurity hold you back.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you.

Disclaimer: this is currently an unpaid position.

Check the site on a regular basis. We had a lot of media coverage pertaining to Of Monsters and Men. Unfortunate that you missed them. They were amazing.
