WIN: Tickets To Park Acoustic’s 8th Birthday

For the last 8 years, Park Acoustics have been going strong with amazing live local (and even international) live acts at Die Voortrekker Monument on Sundays once a month.

This Sunday, 21 May we are going to celebrate their 8th birthday in style with Fokofpolisiekar, The Black Cat Bones, The Tazers, Late Night Fox, The Sextons and Moejoe on stage at Fort Schanskop.

Over the years, there have been more than 70 Park Acoustics events, 150 acts and many memories that we’ll never forget, and we have two last-minute tickets up for grabs.

We want you to share by commenting below one of your favourite Park Acoustics days that you will never forget, and why.  Tell us and you might be our lucky winner that wins two tickets to the event.  Winner will be announced via Facebook and Twitter on Tuesday 16 May,
and will be contacted via email.

I still remember when we went to watch Die Heuwels Fantasties at Park Acoustics in April 2014. The show took place at the Amphi teatre and not at the Fort as most events now. We were lying on the grass under these colourful nets/tents across the lawn and I still recorded Leja to send the video to my friend who was in America at the time. It started raning that afternoon, so Die Heuwels Fantasties actually finished their show in one of the halls. It was absolutely incredible. We were drenched but it was definitely one of the most memorable Park Acoustics for me 🙂

My favourite Park Acoustics was a few years ago when I got dropped by all my friends, so I ended up taking my little sister along. I had to be *slightly* not honest about her age to get her in for free (tickets were sold out okay) to watch kidofdoom, Desmond and the Tutus and Jeremy Loops. That was her first gig/show and it was flippen legit. Had a few insane shows after that seeing Jeremy Loops, Gangs of Ballet and Matthew Mole with friends, but that one is definitely my favourite.

When I met my (now) best friend, Marnel Smit, over a bottle of gin and Shortstraw playing in the back. This was in 2014. Since then we haven’t missed a single Shortstraw gig or music festival together. ❤❤

My favourite Park Acoustics was on 30 October 2016 with Koos Kombuis, Blomtrein, Albert Frost and Jonathan Peyper to name a few. Me and my very pregnant wife (she was 38 weeks pregnant at the time) decided to make the trek up to Fort Schanskop for one last Park Acoustics before our son was born, and boy what a great Park Acoustics it was, Blomtrein rocked with old and new tracks, Albert Frost reminded us that he is indeed one of the best guitarists in SA with mind blowing solos but it was Koos Kombuis backed up with a full band that stole the show and got us dancing the day away. I would love to take my wife and son for another fun filled day at the fort!

Tiaan already beat me to it, but I feel the story is so nice we should tell it twice. 23 February 2014 I met my best friend and music festival soulmate at Park Acoustics (while he was stuck in that huge tree in the middle of the fort). I’m forever grateful for our mutual love of gin, Shortstraw and especially Park Acoustics that brought us together. Every Park Acoustics with him is a memorable day that I’ll never forget. <3

I remember back then when Francois Van Coke launched his first solo album… he was asking for a FPK or Van Coke Kartel song request. My friend and I (intoxicated as we were) kept chanting “HERE MAN! HERE MAN!”. Nonetheless Franna played the tune and the next morning VCK posted their “Here Man” tour online! I can only assume and guess it was because of that parks, the tour was adequately named 😀

The best day I had was at the final park acoustics of 2012 with fokofpolisiekar, no surprise there, matthew mole and al bairre! What a lineup.. That day started a wonderful 4 years relationship with al bairre, which unfortunately came to an end early this use! Can’t wait to see what this one has in-store for me.. enjoy people.
