WIN with Brickfields Music Festival Unlimited with 8ta

Following the wild success of the second edition in March, Brickfields Festival returns to pioneering, inner-city venue Carfax on Saturday, 24th November. Organisers have steered clear of mainstream sounds and delivered a refined, left-of-centre line-up showcasing home grown talent of the cutting-edge variety. Young guns and veterans; acoustic and electronic – a banquet of styles and sounds promises to cater for all tastes.

Taking place at Carfax and its surrounding streets and parking lots, the third Brickfields brings together a hefty line-up of thirty acts which are divided between four stages from the afternoon and into the night. A mix of live and electronic defines the Brickfields experience and festival organizers have left little to be desired with a line-up bursting with innovative local talent. This year sees a strong Cape Town contingent whose sonic fare should prove enticing.

Proceedings will kick off at one in the afternoon and will continue until the early hours of the morning. As before, guitars rule the daytime portion of the program. Afrikaans punk rock band Van Coke Kartel headlines The Live Stage along with Shadowclub and the hotly tipped Beast – a quartet of members from leading bands fronted by Inge Beckman. Tumi will perform alongside Yesterday’s Pupil. Spoek Mathambo, Kite Rider, ShortStraw, BCUC and Machineri complete an impressive live line-up.

You’ll find the crème de la crème of deep house and techno acts on the TOY TOY stage.  Fans of the collective’s Friday nights will be pleased to see residents Dogstarr, Fabio, Sound Sensible and Rob Sloan doing what they do best. Craig Massiv and Floyd Lavine will dish up their distinct deep house while Cape Town’s Monique Pascall will perform solo and with Ivan Turanjanin under the pair’s Space Time Continuum guise. Festival favourite, acclaimed electronica artist Felix Laband returns to the stage for the third year running.

The stellar Red Bull Sound System is back to compliment The Carfax Stage – which will serve up a selection of more alternative electronic styles to get lost to. Festival-goers  can look forward toelectro, dubstep and various other strains of bass music. Young production phenomenon Das Kapital headlines the stage and is joined by fellow Capetonians Dank and Jakobsnake. Melodik, Danger Ingozi and Andrew the DJ are also billed on a forward-thinking, bass-heavy line-up.

The Mielie Beat Bar unites beat slingers, hip hop turntablists and a solid line-up of drum ‘n bass DJs. Trailblazing Capetonian trio Mix ‘n Blend take the main slot – they share the stage with a trio of Jo’burg’s top rated scratch scientists Tha Cutt, DJ Soosh and DJ Hamma and no nonsense drum ‘n bass DJs Deeziak, Ambush and MPI.

Since its inception in November 2011, Brickfields has grown in size and stature. Strong attendance at March’s event signalled a glowing future for the festival. With mobile service provider, 8ta as a sponsor, the third Brickfields is back with a bigger, broader selection of DJs and live acts from across all scenes.

Whether you’re acoustically or electronically inclined, you’d be hard-pressed to find something more colorful and expansive than this burgeoning inner city soirée. Food stalls and a flea market will be open throughout the duration of the festival.

Tickets available at Webtickets. R150 presale, R200 at the door.

Firstly, how on earth is it possible to be excitged about only one band. Tumi, crazy south african music, the legendary Spoek and shadowclub. then Keanu reeves superstars Shorthstraw, van coke. they are like the english fpk. there is no way to choose one. i would have to say though, that out of all of that, it would have to be shortstraw, not because they are the best or most amazing, but because they always interact!
    That would be my choice

I am most excited to see none other than the magnificent thrash folk band, SHORTSTRAW! 😀 I have followed them around like a little pup for quite some time now, jiving to their sweet tunes every chance I get! They make my soul happy. After my stressful exams this year, I need to dance to LYSAGFY, Keanu Reeves, One Long Day, and my fave, Underfed!! <3
**FIND YOURSELF** – Shortstraw certainly have helped me do exactly that…

I am most excited to see Shadowclub. I heard them for the first time at In The City and they were amazeballs. Second only to Bloc Party they were my fav act that night. They are incredibly talented and it doesn’t hurt that the lead vocalist is a hottie 😉 Can’t wait to get the chance to see them live again!

It’s impossible to choose just one so I will have to say the legendary, brilliant and whimsically bad ass Spoek Mathambo as well as Das Kapital (what a babe), no DJ can get my dancing shoes tapping quite like this babe can! I really hope I win 😀 pick me!!
