Win with The Road to The Victoria Falls Carnival (featuring Jeremy Loops)

In the spirit of adventure Jeremy Loops and his band of merrimen will be crossing the Southern tip of the continent in search of fun, music and adventure on the road trip of a lifetime to Victoria Falls Carnival.

The Vic Falls Carnival Road Show was born in the wake of Jeremy Loops’ impending album launch and Vic Falls Carnival’s (VFC from hereon) aspirations to become a world renowned festival. The motivation is to create an alternative festival experience that not only ferries music lovers across Southern Africa to VFC, but to also give them an opportunity to connect with the communities who inhabit Southern Africa’s beautiful landscape, as well as an opportunity to connect with their favourite musicians at an unprecedented level. To cement this artist-fan-landscape relationship, Jeremy Loops, one of SA’s fastest growing, most-talked-about folk musicians, is producing the entire trip.

The journey happens in three phases:

1) On 26 December, a grand launch event is hosted at Tanz Cafe in Fourways. Jeremy Loops, Two Minute Puzzle, Jonny Guy, Naming James and Andre Geldenhuys of Machineri are on the bill for the big send off.

2) On 27 December, the actual road trip commences. Nine overland trucks carrying 250 musicians, photographers, journalists and music will depart Johannesburg, South Africa, going through Gaborone in Botswana, Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and eventually arriving at the Victoria Falls Carnival on 28 Nov. A mini-festival will be held in Palapye in Botswana on 27 November for the 250 explorers, while several impromptu stops and jams will occur in towns along the way.

3) On 31 December, the Vic Falls Carnival Roadshow crew arrive at destination Victoria Falls, stopping off at the Beer Festival before pushing on to the Victoria Falls Festival. With Zahara, The Graeme Watkins Project, and others, the best of Southern African talent is on showcase.

Jeremy Loops, the festival producer and Greenpop Director, has seen huge success in the performing scene, headlining most of SA’s biggest festivals and performing at the majority of SA’s elite mainstream music venues. ‘I’m so excited to collaborate with fellow Africans on this road show, that’s what its about, bringing people together and sharing the awesomeness of music,’ Jeremy says. It’s this great approach to connectivity and the bringing together of afro-centric talent that will make this stream of events so memorable. “This adventure is all about passion for music. Music can change people and people have the power to change the world.”

Vision and outcome:

‘Our promise is to connect with local communities along the way. To tap into the artistic, the cultural and the environmental values of our focus countries en route. Through popular media, the experience will highlight the spirit of Africa, exposing a global audience to the magic that Southern Africa and Southern African music has to offer,’ explains Jeremy. This will be done through high profile, cross-border collaborations, at core events and smaller ad-hoc style busking and musical journals of artists involved. The content will be created locally but appeal globally. Fans will also be encouraged to bring instruments to become part of this collaboration.

The whole adventure will have a strong theme surrounding adventure, connectivity and intimacy between old friends and new acquaintances both on the trucks and on the road. The pure nature of the ride will stimulate a huge amount of spontaneity.
