Zula Bar – The Last Dance

By : Ezelle Louw (@lupaphoto)

The sad news of another live music venue closing hit us this past week. Zula Bar has been home to some of our industry’s most prominent artist and also provided unknown bands an opportunity to showcase their music to the public. After 9 years of providing us with music and talent, Zula Bar is closing its doors on us. This weekend is the last festival of music happening , so please make sure you make extra effort to go say your goodbyes. Here we have the line up for you! Bands not listed in any particular order of performance.

THIS BLURB COMES WITH LOVE FROM VUSA & ZOE:

To our nearest and dearest, the creative hub of the Cape!

For 9 years Zula Sound Bar has been at the pinnacle of live music entertainment not just in Cape Town but in South Africa. As you know, Zula Sound Bar was started by Vusa and Zoe Mazula in 2005 at the top end of Long St. With the support of Cape Town behind us and with our policies of giving up and coming performers a live platform in the heart of the city, Zula has gained legendary status and has played a huge role in a lot of our party lives over the past decade.

We have seen a great many artistes pass through our doors some of whom have shone brightly but briefly and others who have gone on to set the world stage alight. We have witnessed the births of musical alliances that have been forged through strong synergies and that have stood the test of time and of a fickle industry. We have been privileged to have been at the forefront of what is the start of a live music revolution in Cape Town and have been proud to be a part of it. We have watched the changes occur up and down Long St. some for the better some for the worse. We have stood in the foot of Table Mountain, breathed in the Cape Town air, laughed, cried, rejoiced, lamented and generally lived life to the max.

For whatever rhyme or reason, the time has now come to move forward with Zula Sound Bar but this event is a nine year toast to the past, instead of a bang we will be moving on with a nuclear explosion!!!
