Get Ready for Rock the River. CTMS Interview : Black Moscow

Interview by : Kaylene Overall (@kayoverall)

Since May 2010 its five members have been at work, fusing their musical talents to produce a sound that varies between between being menacing and reflective, while remaining sincere.
They answered some of our questions to ready ourselves for Rock the River.

Who are you as band most looking forward to see perform live at Rock The River?
The Sleepers, Van Coke Kartel, All Guns Full Ammo, Woodstock Mafia, Taxi Violence and ING (to name a few).

What can people expect from your performance at Rock The River? An energetic but focused show. Five guys doing what we love.
Also, it will be our first festival with our new singer…

What has been the best thing a fan / critic has said to you this year?
Clem – “You have a really sexy ass! ;)”
Marc – That all of our hard work has paid off. We put a lot of effort into what we do, and it’s always great to get recognition.
Luke – “Man, how do you play a 6-string bass with your eyes closed and still rock out!?”
Rob – “Can I buy you a beer?”

Do you guys have any cures and / or remedies for those pre-show jitters?
Drugs, Sex and Jack Daniels! But in all seriousness, just being quiet and getting focussed on the task at hand and then going onstage and enjoying ourselves.

Name three can’t-do-without items you always pack for a festival.
Rob – “Sunglasses, Cowboy hat and toilet paper.”
Marc – “My beer-hat.. My pink underwear. My GAME FACE.”
Luke –  “Sunscreen (won’t make that mistake again!). A copy of the band line-up. Brandy.”
Clem – “Coffee. Sugar. Coffee flask.”

Tell us about one of your most epic festival experiences?
Wondering around in total darkness being molested by farm animals (Clem) and the general debauchery that was NYE at RTR 2011! Beach balls to the face,
champagne, smooches at midnight, late night tent shenanigans.

Looking back at 2012, what was your highlight of the year as artist?
Sharing the Mercury Live stage with The Sleepers (clips on YouTube) and welcoming Clem to the band.

Now that 2012 is drawing to a close, what can fans expect from you in the New Year? Any big plans?
We’re going to be recording a few tunes early in the year, writing new material and working on an acoustic set.
Playing a festival like Rock the River must be exciting, but also daunting at the same time. What’s the process like of prepping for a festival like this?
Just a lot of rehearsal time. Putting in the hours to get as tight as possible. If we walk onstage confident in our set, then the rest falls into place.

Give us one of your short term and one long term goal for 2013?
Recording a great EP and start working on an even better album. Expand our audience and get more festival experience.

Who will be standing next to you for the NYE countdown?
Rob – “My band mates…and some other people who I’ll probably need to apologise to.”
Marc – “Probably my girlfriend. But maybe I’ll sneak in a quickie with Rob.”
What makes your band different from any other band on the heavy rock scene?
It’s not necessarily different from all other bands in the heavy rock scene, but we aim to be as professional as we can be. Our goal is not to be satisfied with anything less than our best…and our love of Creme Soda!

You guys have said in the past that you like to keep your music unpretentious. How do you maintain that air of sincerity and humility in the midst of your success?
Success? Although flattered, we all feel like we still have a long way to go. We write what we feel, and as long as we stay true to ourselves and our goal then we should be fine. And if you come down after a show and talk to us, you will see we’re just a bunch of ordinary guys (well we like to think we are haha).
