New festivals are a welcome sight in South Africa especially ones that boast a unique line-up catering towards the local side of the music industry while still being affordable for the general public. Robertson Rocks is exactly that. It is an eco-adventure spring festival occurring at Leopardfalls – a beautiful resort nestled in the Rooiberg mountain range just outside of Robertson. The festival shall be occurring on n the 14th, 15th and 16th October. The festival aims to be a celebration of local music as it boasts a line-up of over 25 artists from a wide range of genres such as rock, punk, indie, emo, blues, funk and much more.

The festival goes beyond just being about music as it coincides with the 10th edition of the Wine on the River festival held on the banks of the Breede River. Festival attendees will be able to utilise a shuttle service to enjoy both festivals. The fact that festival shall be taking place in the heart of a Renosterveld conservancy is where the notion of an “eco-adventure” festival kicks in as the festival shall take place in the midst of some of the richest biodiversity in the Klein Karoo. Leopardfalls is home to a wide range of fynbos and birdlife, and also has five resident leopards along with a horde of other wildlife.

Event Horizons, the company behind the festival, is still in the process of announcing the full line-up but so far the following bands shall be playing on the main stage: Taxi Violence, Akkedis, Past Haunts, The Inside Job, Chris Ross Band, Dustland Express, Ruber Gerritz Band, The Jumping Guns, The Nasty Narcotics, Black Math, The Sisters, Drunk Girls, Young Hands, Smugg Juggler, Riku Latti, and Burger Le Roux. We shall get you updated as more artists are announced. There shall also be an art stage which shall host comedians, acoustic artists and a variety of artistic performances under wild bush trees surrounded by various art stalls selling handmade arts and crafts as well as other goodies.

Event Horizons founder Ryno Shaun de Lange has this to say about his vision for Robertson Rocks: ” Robertson Rocks Leopardfalls brings the best of two worlds together; the fine wines, food and crafts of Robertson and the best live alternative and rock acts in English and Afrikaans hand picked for their current status in South African music, driving forward an eco-adventure music experience, once our festival fans see the venue I am sure they will be at a loss for words at the site of the beautiful mountain range of Leopardfalls. Robertson Rocks breaks in Leopardfalls as a music festival venue which would be perfect for any festival, all with the goal to build upon Robertson Rocks and each festival to follow.”

The success of Roberston Rocks Lepoardfalls shall result in the launch of an exciting community partnership. The partnership will fund the creation of a sustainable AquaPonic fish and vegetable garden within Leopardfalls to give the local school children in the Robertson Valley a regular healthy meal.

Early bird ticket sales shall be launching shortly at R500 per person for a full weekend of camping. Regular tickets are due to be released on 1 August for R550. The festival shall also be selling day passes for R150.
